Hi Everyone,
As you know, the San Francisco Region (SFR) has been searching for a Regional Executive Director—a new leadership position designed to guide our region into a vibrant new era of Road Racing. After an extensive search and interviews with candidates from across the industry, I am pleased to announce that John Hunter has joined our organization.
John comes to us with full support of SCCA National, where he has served since 2018. His recent experience as the Time Trials Program Manager, combined with his background as the SCCA Starting Line Program Coordinator and Solo Matters Editor, makes him an excellent fit. Beyond his professional credentials, John has served on the Nebraska SCCA Region Board and volunteered with Tire Rack Teen Street Survival and Habitat for Humanity. As an active racer himself, he shares our passion for the sport and aligns perfectly with the values of the SFR.
In his new role, John will work closely with the SFR Board to ensure our road racing program remains viable and growing. His primary focus will include:
- Strategic Planning: Developing measurable annual plans, focusing on operations, marketing, sales, financial consistency, and sponsor acquisition.
- Program Growth: Identifying opportunities to support and enhance our already successful Autocross programs.
- Volunteer Programs: Grow our Worker ranks by making our events attractive to support and design Worker recruiting programs
- Program Integration: Bringing additional SCCA initiatives—such as Time Trials, Race Experience, and Track Days—into our Road Racing framework.
- Revenue Diversification: Integrating outside SCCA entities into our events to generate new income and long-term partnership opportunities.
Road Racing throughout the SCCA has faced challenges with attendance, and SFR is no exception. These plans will not happen overnight, and we refuse to accept “business as usual.” We are committed to making the adjustments necessary to thrive, and John is the right leader to help us do that. He brings the vision, the passion for racing, and the ability to connect with the next generation of races we must attract to ensure continuity and long-term success for SFR.
