Concours d’Elegance
Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) was founded in 1944 and now has membership in excess of 55,000. SCCA’s San Francisco Region (SFR) followed in 1948, boasts about 3,400 members, and encompasses the geographic area north of Fresno to the Oregon border.
Although SCCA’s focus has always been on racing, sanctioning road races throughout the country, SFR has also sanctioned Concours d’Elegance – competitions of elegance – since 1952. Concours are exhibits of collector automobiles judged on their quality of restoration to original and authentic, as well as their condition, preparation and operation.
SCCA provides judges, field crew and scorers at each SCCA-sanctioned concours. All judges are volunteers and deemed expert on specific marques (manufacturers). All judged automobiles should be, essentially, as they appeared on the showroom floor. Each auto is judged beginning with 100 points. Points are then deducted for deviations from original, imperfections, poor preparation, etc. The highest three point-finishers in each class are awarded trophies. But,for an automobile to win its class, it must score at least 80 points; second place requires at least 70 points; third place at least 60 points.
Originating in 2008, SFR-SCCA has been presenting the Championship Award. 5-points are awarded for entering each SFR-SCCA sanctioned concours, for receiving a class trophy (5-points, 1st place; 3-points, 2nd place; 2-points, 3rd place) and for being judged Best-of-Show (10-points). The automobile that accumulates the greatest number of points at the end of the concours season wins the award. The Championship Award is presented at the season’s final show. For a vehicle to accumulate points and to win the Championship Award, it must be model year 1987, or older. Once a vehicle has won the Championship Award, it is ineligible to win it again.
SFR-SCCA is actively seeking new judges, field crew and scoring assistants. If you are interested, please contact Chief-of-Concours Ed Therrien at interairsvs@yahoo.com or at (510)670-4700.

Crystal Springs Golf Course
For 63 consecutive years, The Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance has built and maintained a proud tradition of honoring and celebrating excellence in automotive design and engineering. The dedication of the Concours leadership and volunteers, pride of its entrants, and devotion of its attendees has earned Hillsborough the proud record as the longest continually running Concours in the world.
The Hillsborough Concours offers a forum for passionate vintage car owners to showcase their prized vehicles and to compete for respect and recognition for their commitment to preserving automotive authenticity. The Concours also aims to cultivate future generations of car enthusiasts by providing privileged access to some of the world’s most celebrated automobiles and by serving as a channel for inspiring and informative automotive knowledge and lore.
The Hillsborough Concours will be held on the beautiful fairways of the Crystal Springs Golf Course. An exclusive group of cars that meet the selection committee’s high standards of authenticity and excellence will be on display amidst a setting of lush green coastal foothills and the Crystal Springs Reservoir . The golf course is conveniently located immediately upon exiting the Black Mountain Road off-ramp of Highway 280 in Hillsborough.
Taking advantage of the Bay Area’s record of near-perfect summer weather, the Tour d’Elegance, a road-rally for Concours participants and car enthusiasts, will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2018. The Concours d’Elegance will take place on Sunday, July 17th 2018.
The Hillsborough Concours Foundation was established in 2010 to significantly extend the philanthropic reach and impact of the Concours organization. In addition to the Hillsborough Schools Foundation, all net proceeds from the Concours and its associated activities will benefit Autism Speaks, a national charity with the goal to change the future for all who struggle with Autism spectrum disorders, and The Guardsmen, a San Francisco-based volunteer organization dedicated to helping at-risk children thrive.
Whether a veteran Concours entrant or a first time attendee, all will marvel at the timeless automotive designs whose aesthetics, innovative engineering, character and attention to detail make them as relevant today as they were when first introduced decades ago.
