Pete Mottaz and Derek Butts ran this Lexus at the 2002 Nationals. Derek trophied at third, Pete came in 22nd of 39 in D Stock, just two of the SFR crew that tore up Nationals in 2002. |

Sharon Levy and Corey Smith have run this constantly improving yellow Audi for several years. The latest addition is a new Turbo -- How's it feel? Sharon and Corey are chairing our 2002 ProSolo Weekend, lots of fun for all. They are also track instructors for a number of clubs, and are running a Spec Miata this year, too. |

Vernon Head was one of the pioneers of autocross karts here in SFR. He is also the chief of schools, and hard at work preparing for the next school. A long time competitor, he has also run a Mazda RX7 TT locally and at Nationals. |

Rich Urschel has been going faster and faster in Lotus Elans for many years now. With his new one, we can expect a lot more. This photo shows his old one. He runs in the Prepared Lotus class -- er, A Prepared, currently chasing the Kellys' Seven A and Patrick Jones' Elise. The new car may have them chasing him. Thanks, Rich for keeping Solo2 in "The Wheel", too. |

OK, he's not going to go tail out this time. But if there is anyone who can demonstrate that the tail-out position CAN be the fast way around, it's Ben Martinez. Ben has been a very key member of the Solo2 team for years, chairing multiple events, driving the trailer/motor home, doing registration. Ben shows us how, in a lot of ways... Even though nobody can catch him... |

Pat Kelly pushes John and Pat's A Prepared Lotus Seven A through an Oakland curve. Pat has more National Championships than many of us have had sets of R tires! She's also the hard-working SFR Results chief, regularly turning them out within a day or two. This while being a full-time Business Manager for the famous North American Pylon, and a regular columnist and contributor. She can very often be found working registration or just spreading good feelings at the Registration desk most events. Look at the other photos to see some of the other Kellys. And check out the concentration! |

Here's autocross action: Chris McKinney and Derek Butts teamed up. They have been co-drivers since 2000, and their determination and success with Derek's Lexus I300 as well as (a different) Toyota MR2, makes you want to go watch them at Nationals. Chris is a past National Champion and Derek has trophied in his first National. Pure talent! |

Bryan Nemy drives this well-prepared RX7 in CSP. Bryan is SFR's Solo2 Chief, and has been Safety Chair for many years, but is taking a break this year. Thanks, Bryan! |

Charlie Davis has been working on this C Prepared Firebird for many months, and perhaps soon it will be a regular sight at our events (maybe without its auxiliary SUV!). Charlie's our SCCA Solo Events Board member for this year, and has also been a long time SFR Solo2 Chief. Perhaps you remember the "York's Peppermint Patty" RX7 or the Honda CRX? This one is cleverly cone-colored, so the impacts don't show |

Barry Chafin's class winning autocross car, dubbed the 4 Door Sports Car (4DSC), drew lots of attention from the younger motorsports fans at the recent San Francisco International Auto Show. The '96 "family sedan", a daily driver, is also used to test new performance components offered for the Nissan Maxima. Get out to one of our events, look Barry up and he'll take you for a ride, after all, that's what 4 Door Sports Cars are all about, right? [Au Nguyen photo] |

Don Ebaugh has been tearing up CSP for several years now. Street Prepared remains strong in SFR despite the new competition from Street Touring and Street Modified classes. The new "specially-colored" loaner helmets are thanks to Don's creativity. [Au Nguyen photo] |

Ferrari Year! In the 2000 Championship series we were blessed with visions of Ferrari! Dan De Gruchy brought his beautiful F355 (shown) to a few events, when he was not campaigning his 911, 968, or Shelley Berg's MR2 in A Stock. In addition, Dan Jones graced a few of our events with a beautiful F360 F1. Good sightseeing in SFR! |

After years of fun running a Datsun 240Z, Kevin and Karena Christman decided to get into C Mod. Kevin has been getting the Tiga sorted for a little while, and it's working! Kevin is one of the funniest announcers in SFR -- too bad we don't see him doing it more. [Jim Williams photo] |

In a demonstration of the effects of positive camber and narrow tires, MIK Jaguar storms around Oakland Coliseum. Jerry Mouton (that's your webmaster, BTW) takes his '64 E Type through the cones. 35 years old, but as beautiful and agile as ever. MIK, that is. Jerry is just a bit older... Watch out A Stock if I can ever dial in some negative camber...[Jim Williams photo] |

SFR runs 8 yr olds in the Junior Driver kart class. Elyse Mottaz, Pete's daughter, is one of the first (and first place, too!) She joins Cameron Kahangi, Christopher Spencer, Amanda Kahangi, Derek Head, and James Mouton in Junior Drivers Kart classes this year so far. [Au Nguyen photo] |

Katie Kelly, fastest woman
in BS; Lucy, fastest Series 1 Miata in the USA! Katie was in second
place in BS (open class!) after the first day of the Tire Rack Solo2 National
Championships for 1999. Having refused a life-giving Coca Cola in day 2,
she still managed a fifth overall, ahead of all other early Miatas. Katie
also had a starring role in one of the memorable skits this year. Congratulations
to all SFR entrants and champions for 1999.
Like daughter, like father John Kelly showing his form in a Healey 100-4 (at about the same age?) |

SFR's 1999 Championship Region saw the start of Kart Autocross here. Vernon Head and Pete Mottaz
have run a very successful test at our events, running a limited number
of karts. The program will be expanded for next year. It's clear that the
drivers and spectators have had a lot of fun, while there has been some
carping from the Mod ranks about their loss of easy TTOD places!

Rex Tener campaigned this BMW in AS and PAX very successfully for several years. Rex has been a Nationals Contender, too, co-driving with Jeff Reitmeir and on his own. He has led the M3 contingent that has dominated AS until the arrival of David Colman's Boxster. [Jim Williams photo] |

Frank Stagnaro has honed his Shelby GT350 into the perfect tool for Solo2 (With lots of help from Meyer Racing). Frank won the CP National Championship in 1998, his fourth. Barbara Ogg shares the car with Frank, and won at Nationals in 1993. Frank is a big contributor the the American Autocross Series events, too. |

Don McKenna is one of the smoothest drivers in SFR, some say. It's clear that he can make cars do things that many believe to be impossible. Don has passed this historic vehicle on to a new generation of McKenna drivers, and now drives a blue Gran Sport. [Jim Williams Photo] |

Sherry Grantz takes a hard, lime green left in the famous DS Neon (since retired). Sherry ran the SFR Solo2 program ably for many years. She is currently raising the next generation of DOA (Daughters of Autocross) members -- Jenny has won DSL pretty consistently over the last several years. Sherry now runs a silver ES Neon, among other rides. [Jim Williams photo] |

New Beetle? Who needs it? Jack
Van Wettering's red Bug has been pretty much dominating Open Street
Prepared for the last several years. Talk about a Q-Ship! (See WW II sea
war history, youngsters) This is one of the prettiest and best prepared
VWs around, and Jack sure knows how to make it go, as does son Steve. Jack
is facing growing competition from a horde of Toyotas this year, driven
by Archie Collantes, Tito Solis, and many others. With an
average of 13 entrants per event this year, OSP is one of SFR's most popular
classes. These guys have a blast, in a fast, noisy world of their own.

Arie Villasol's vintage DSP MGB -- the killerB -- at Topeka, 1997. After a number of trailer difficulties Arie DROVE the killerB to Kansas to join the SFR contingent. You can tell Arie's a Pro graphic designer -- he's even designed logos for Laguna Seca. Arie is sponsored by Primo Angeli, Inc. Kinda looks like Ken "NOKONES" Mitchell in the background, doesn't it? |

This is what "slush" is all about here in SFR. Kevin Stevens hydroplanes his trusty Camaro at Oakland Coliseum December 29, 1996 (John F. Kelly Jr. photo) |

"The Massachusetts Boxster" Jon Sirota (Josh's dad) takes his AS Porsche Boxster out for a drive. Josh campaigned it in the 1997 slush series. In it's first outing, Josh and Michael Butler undertook the "National Champs Boxster Challenge" (NCBC), largely instigated by Andy McKee. The contest was very exciting, with Michael and Josh trading places right up to the last run. Josh finally won by about 0.4 seconds. To demonstrate the value of competition, these guys ended up first and second (PAXed) in their first outing here in this car, 11/29/97. (Roger Schleicher photo) |

Andy McKee wheels his sparkling white Integra, Frosty, around the pointer cones at the Pro Finale in Topeka this fall. Look closely at the grin (or grimace?) on that face. There's a good two inches under that inside rear tire, too. |
