Special Classes for
2005
-
Novice Classes -- All entrants in a Novice Class -- say,
B
Stock
Novice -- compete for a single set of trophies. Novices run in the same run
group as their Open Class.
Novice classes: see also the Novice rules.
Stock, Street Prepared, Street Touring,
and Street Modified Novices may run street tires only
-- treadwear rating of
140 or
more.
(New
for
2005)
Modified and Prepared Class Novices may use any Solo2
legal tire.
- Street Touring 2 (ST2)
Two seat sportscars on street tires.
NOTE: Section 14 will be the ST rules in the 2004 Rulebook. Sections
1 thru 10 will define STS. Section 14.11 defines STX by how it varies
from STS. We follow the same method as STX for defining ST2 as follows:
14.12 ST2
A. The ST2 class encompasses different vehicle eligibility limits
than those specified for STS, and adds a limited number of allowed
modifications.
1. All STS allowances carry over, including street tires,
emissions, etc.
2. Vehicles eligible for this class include 2-seat sports cars
and sports car based 2+2s (e.g. Porsche 912, 944, and 924, Datsun
240/260/280Z 2+2, Mazda RX-7 2+2, etc) currently classified in CS, ES,
GS, or HS. Vehicles eligible to compete in STS or STX are not eligible
for ST2.
3. Only factory limited slip differentials (LSD) are allowed on
AWD vehicles as defined in section 12.4. For AWD vehicles which did not
come with any sort of LSD, including center differential or transfer
case, a single aftermarket LSD may be added. 2WD vehicles may use any
LSD unit.
4. Additionally Excluded cars: Lotus (all), Triumph TR-8, Renault
Alpine, Sunbeam Tiger
FWIW, there are 13 paragraphs that define the additional preparation
allowances for STX. The above ST2 proposal includes only one.
More info about ST2 [pdf] from 4d-sport.com.
- Street Touring U
(STU) is
a
regional
(SCCA
supplemental)
class.
STU will follow the
STX rule set, but will raise the displacement
limit for otherwise STX-legal vehicles to 3.1 litres for forced induction
and to unlimited displacement for natural aspiration. To accommodate the
greater power of these vehicles, restrictions on wheel width are lifted and
the maximum tire width will be increased to 275 for front or rear wheel
drive vehicles (but will remain at 245 for AWD vehicles). Other than these
limited exceptions, the STX rule set as described in 14.11 applies.
This class extends the Street Touring concept to cars including the
Audi
S4,
BMW
M3
(E36),
Chevrolet
Camaro,
Dodge Neon
SRT-4,
Ford
Mustang,
Mazda
RX-8,
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
8,
Pontiac
Firebird,
Pontiac
GTO,
Subaru WRX
STi,
Volvo S60
R, and
Toyota
Supra.
Excluded vehicles include the
E46 M3 and the
E39
M5.
In conjunction with the planned evolution of this category and of
the sport as a whole,
this supplemental
class will not be considered
for full national status until 2007.
Official news of STU is in
FasTrack 2004 April at page F-65.
