SFR Solo2 reaches midseason Round 8 of 16 scheduled events was held at the San Joaquin County fairgrounds on April 8, 2001. The event chairs looked at the early morning turnout and quickly decided to combine the first two run groups. This caught out participants expecting to run in groups 2 and 3, eliminating the opportunity to unload their cars, so the start was pushed back to 9:30 am. Overall attendance was fair for Stockton at 134 despite a weather forecast of occasional showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms. The rain held off most of the day, allowing the first six of eight groups to run in the dry. Only seven of the usual dozen or so participants showed up for the Street Tire class with points leader Dave Rowney gone missing. Karl Glynn seized the day strengthening his points lead over David Parker and Sean Kearney who was unable to match his last winning performance due to new (squirmy tread) tires. In Open Street Prepared Tito Solis tightened his death grip on the points lead with Vic Sias missing in action. Mert Solis, Bong Solis, James Creasy, and Anthony Abeleda claimed 2nd through 5th mirroring their season points positions of 3rd through 6th. Vernon Head is continuing to carry the shifter kart banner setting official top time of day. Four junior kart drivers joined the fray with Chris Spencer winning convincingly in his second appearance of the year. Elyse Mottaz closed on points leader Jake Mottaz while Sarah Jones closed on the absent third place points holder, Cameron Kahangi. Legson Sayo took the win in Novice class 2 moving up to 4th in points behind Dan Dalen while Kenneth Kong closed on points leader Alan Chin. E stock has seen six different winners in eight events as Regis Bectarte took his second while Alan Perucho closed on points leader Steve Bowlus. In H stock Alan Gruner won his seventh of eight events over Stan Guidero and Jieve Zapata. Sean Wheeler scored his sixth win in F Street Prepared over third in points George Hong and Arthur Vizcarra. Rich Urschel made a rare appearance (and wrote this rare report) in A Prepared besting points leader John Kelly while Pat Kelly closed on second place in points held by Patrick Jones whose Lotus Elise developed terminal understeer after performing well just two weeks before. Although five different drivers have won C Prepared, no one appears committed to the season trophy race. Louie Lira won his second in round 8 over Seth Emerson. Dan Pina won his fourth event in E Prepared stretching his points lead over the absent David Pina and Arnold Escano who finished second just six hundreths of a second back. In the Novice 3 class Greg Jones won his first event closing on points leader Clay Cifford and second in points Carl Valerama. In the Street Touring Street Tire class Simon Yu won his first event and moved up to third in points behind points leaders Ian Green and Robert Vincent. In the R Tire version of Street Touring Adrian Tang needed and got his third win to maintain second in points over Niki Tam as each closed on points leader Richard Reeves. In the Street Modified class Elton Hom found the semi-small, semi-slick, semi-bumpy Stockton lot to his liking taking his first win of the season by four thousandths of a second over points leader Don Ebaugh while Ricky Hines closed on Durk Edwards for second in points. David Benach captured the win and points lead over the absent David Chiang in the Novice 4 class. Alan Leung took third strengthening his third in points position. Pete Mottaz took his second G stock win maintaining third in points over Paul Tibbals. Elbert Chin finished second to close on the absent points leader Sean O'Boyle. In D Street Prepared Charlie Davis and Don Lew pushed Ben Martinez to the top PAX time of day in securing his seventh win of the season. Craig Boyle took his sixth B Stock win over Kevin Lahey and second in points Tony Tabacco. In C Stock Dennis Armstrong took his first win of the year with a six tenths margin over points leader Scot Zediker. Novice 6 had a turn out of 11 drivers with Ian Porteous and Mike Kyle closing on points leader John Stimson. Phil White, the only other event winner on the year holds fifth in points. The rains came in the seventh run group and made third runs academic except for Larry Marsala who lengthened his Novice 7 class points lead in his Lotus Esprit V8. In A Street Prepared Chris Boynton took advantage of the dry course on his first run to win by 1.7 seconds. Points leader Jeffrey Gordon took second over second in points Joe Weinstein and third in points Rob Boynton. Regina Morec held on to fourth in points ahead of Chris.
