SFR Solo2 Round 7 Ben Martinez chaired round 7 of the San Francisco Region Championship Series at 3Com Park on June 4th. The weather was pleasant with occasional gusts off the bay and attendance remained strong at 258. Ben was able to get out on course with the first run group to take the D Street Prepared win over Dietrich Schultz and points leader Don Lew. John Lawrence posted a Neon win over D Stock points leader Patrick Jones. Stuart Langager came away with his first G Stock win in an Eagle Talon over points leader Pete Mottaz, Sean O'Boyle and ten other drivers. Carlos Gomez claimed his fifth win and the points lead in the Rookie Class over Michael Donlon and Elbert Chin who are third and fourth in points. In run group 2 Honda S2000s profoundly disrupted the status quo of A stock with Eric Cheung taking the lead on the first runs and then falling behind codriver and eventual winner Rob Luis and Kit Wetzler also in an S2000. On the final runs Dan DeGruchy second in class points also snuck ahead of Eric for third place. Points leader Jerry Mouton made little progress reducing his time collecting cones while searching for a way to fit his Porsche 911 onto the Honda line. In the B Stock class Rick Gould moved to second in points with a convincing win over points leader Craig Boyle and points contenders Andrew Jensen, Christopher Carfi, Keith Hearn and 3 other Miata drivers. The slower Miata class, C Stock saw a very close race between points contenders Dennis Armstrong (2nd), Chris Herring (3rd), and points leader Scot Zediker. Their times would have placed them in 3rd through 5th in the faster class. The Rookie group was again won convincingly by Kevin Kluge in his BMW M3 with Sean Kearney hustling his Porsche 968 into second place in his second ever autocross besting fellow Irishman and pal Karl Glynn who took third in his BMW Z3 Coupe. Karl has pulled up to third in season points behind Alexander Komlik who finished fifth on the day. In the third group Barry Chafin ran away from the rest of the field in Street Touring - Street Tires besting Jesse Peralta, Integra, Greg Umbay, Civic, Giles Douglas, VW Jetta, Joseph Luk, Impreza, and Mike Magdaluyo, Maxima. Street Touring - R Tires went to Soebe Soekamto and it (sigh) wasn't even close. Car owner Chok Balamaceda took another second trailed by Joel Cady, Eric West, and fourth in points Sheening Lin. Top honors in Street Modified went to Jamie Ruderman, MX3, second in points Jeff Cavano, Eclipse, and Michael Moal, Mustang. Adrian Tang scored his fourth win in the rookie class. In the fourth run group Chris Boynton continued his assault on the A Street Prepared points lead taking his fourth win in his Porsche Turbo. Ray Fiore claimed second in another Porsche over points leader Jeffrey Gordon and Rob Boynton. Corey Smith claimed the win and points lead of C Street Prepared over Travis Lane, BMW M3 (E30) and Steve Sherwood, Audi S4. Joe Siam took fourth in his Integra, and some guy who needs to clean up his sponsor's name took fifth over Bryan Nemy in his Mazda RX7. Also of considerable note in the final morning run group, Don McKenna showed up in Super Stock and did not win. Codriver Steve Hobaugh collected the 200 points over Don and Michael Willink, RX7. In the rookie group Josh Schaefer put his BMW M Coupe into the points lead with his third win. Jeff Singer finished second and is third in points in his Porsche Boxster S. Gideon Archer placed an M Coupe third followed by David Tchankotanze in an M Roadster. Jack Stone made the rest of us feel better taking fifth in his considerably lower budget Mazda RX7. In the fifth run group Peter Thana claimed his first Street Tire Class win in his BMW Z3 2.8 Coupe over points leader Dave Rowney, BMW 328i, and second in points David Parker, Nissan 300ZX. Peter moves to third in points over Carl Merritt who couldn't better sixth place on the day. The PAX class was decided by half an indexed second (that's almost like cursing) with points leader Teresa Neidel taking a 15/100ths win over Andy McKee and second in points Katie Kelly. In group 6 Chris Spencer pasted Elyse Mottaz by six seconds. Oh my. Elyse still leads in points. Points leader Tito Solis took top time of day and a convincing win over 13 other drivers in Open Street Prepared. Gino Cosolluela took second with Solis's of the Bong and Mert kind following up. Archie Collantes caught a bad case of coneitis finished behind James Creasy's Cobra. In the rookie group Edwin Rodriquez made it two in a row over first and second in points Soslan and George Kibilov. In the Seventh run group E Prepared Dwayne Komush moved closer to the points lead with a win over David Pina and third in points Neal Ryan. In A Prepared John Kelly scored his second win in the Lotus Seven A. Thanks to Peter Thana I was able to salvage the points lead while risking a rekindling of BMW lust driving his Z3. In F Street Prepared Durk Edwards took the win for Toyota and the class points lead for himself. Jo Jo Collantes came alive besting Sean Wheeler for second place and tying him for third in points. Fourth place went to second place points holder Scott Fraser. One could seasick following the points lead in this class. Mark Hansen took E Stock in a VW VR6 but Alan Gruner's second place was good enough to take the class points lead. Calvin Wan won the rookie class again taking a considerable points lead over Carlos Evangelista. In the last run group Jim Ochi took E Street Prepared win number 3 over points leader Kirk Meline and third in points Tony Ozzello. The rookie class went to Chris Warner over points leader Michael Santos, and third in points Heather Santos. -Rich Urschel
