In Memory Of Frank Eubel

Frank's Candle

We received the very sad news earlier this week that long time SFR member Frank Eubel, who had relocated a few years ago back to the East coast, has passed away from a severe heart attack.

The Webteam expresses their deep condolences to Frank's immediate family, loved ones, and extended family of friends.

Condolences may be forwarded to Nancy Eubel, 1468 Mill Landing Road, Virginia Beach VA 23457.

I feel like I've lost one of my brothers; a better friend and kindred spirit I have not known in this business in 30 years.

First Frank Leary, then Lucy Zanardi and now Eubel....

Damn.....

-- David Dodds

I was greatly saddened to learn of Frank’s death. Since the advent of Google I occasionally checked out his website where I learned the sad news.

It is good to know he was able to fulfill his dreams and spend his life doing those things that brought him great joy.

I feel that I have lost a part of my youth. I know he was very happy with you and I’m sure the two of you had a great life together.

Give my regards to Toni and Curt and his family.

Peace and love,

-- Mary Jane Deenihan “The Practice Wife”

Many great times pit racing with Frank. He always seemed to have a comment that would make you stop and think.

Sadness, indeed.

While Frank has not been active in the Region lately, his memory, dedication to the Region & National Comp board, and his colorful personality have often been topics of conversation which bring smiles to those of us who enjoyed his “off the wall” sense of humor and brilliance.

I will miss knowing that I will no longer have the pleasure of more of Frank’s humor and unpredictable ways.

To Nancy – Come home – you’re family is here!

A great loss.

I will always remember Frank for his professional demeanor.

Always a gentleman.

Always very upbeat.

I will miss him.

--- Jose Franco, SF Region

My favorite memory of Frank was many years ago (1985-6?) when Impound's mascot 'rubber chicken' had a fatal mishap and had to be buried.

Following a very sad 'viewing' in someone's (Stoker's?) motorhome (accompanied by candlelight and recorded wailing and crying), the workers formed a flashlight procession to the inside of Turn 10 for the interment. At the graveside, Father Frank read from the good book, which happened to be a cookbook, the only book suitable for chickens he could locate on such short notice.

In sonorous tones which had us all weeping, he read slowly from the recipe for Flaming Chicken.

It has since been remembered as Father Frank's "Eubelogy."

Following were glowing testimonials from all assembled, at which point RC was lowered into the grave and all adjourned for the wake (social), which as I remember was an occasion for even more hilarity than usual, and that's saying a lot for those days!

What made it exceptionally special was that it happened on a drivers school weekend and the entire activity was watched nervously by the students, who naturally assumed we were all crazy! Wonder what gave them that idea??!!!

Frank was always a lot of fun to have around, both in and out of the car. And he had a big heart. Perhaps that's what wore it out untimely.

Farewell, Father Frank. You will be missed by all.

Frank Eubel? Now there was a real racing character.......

He was big showroom stock news in the Honda CRX when that car first arrived on the scene. A great personality who always had 1 million ideas (and opinions) to share.

My best memory comes from 1988 when he won an SSB race at Sears Point in the red CRX by a handy margin as usual. He gave me a wave on every lap as he passed our flag station at Turn 4.

After taking the checkered flag, he stopped and picked up all the flaggers from our turn (including big old Chuck Zanardi) and took us on his victory lap. I clearly remember the tire rub as the overloaded Honda went round the carousel at speed!

This is from Nancy

Frank was very moved by this request for phone cards for the military wounded at Walter Reese. It would be wonderful, for any one who wanted, to remember him in this way. He's in total agreement with this choice! (They probably need to specify that it is for the wounded soldiers.)

Love,
Nancy

Imus:

"The number one request at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center was phone cards."

"The government doesn't pay long distance phone charges, you can't even make that up, and wounded soldiers are rationing their calls home and a lot of them will be there at Walter Reed for the holidays."

"Well I'll buy ten thousand dollars worth of phone cards and send it to them."

"Here is where you can send your phone cards..."
