Bill's Candle
Bill Knox, Friend, Father and Husband, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 1999. He died in the company of friends and family due to cancer related complications.
An avid race fan, Bill raced a Vintage MGB and worked on the SCCA Course Marshal Crew. Known for his unmistakable "cow hat," Bill was often seen at socials participating in the Worker Appreciation Program as emcee and barbecuing. Arrangements are currently being made to carry out Bill's wishes to have a celebration of his life instead of a memorial service. Date and time will follow.
In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that donations be made to an education fund for his daughter. Donations can be sent to:

We are devastated to hear this news about Bill. We have been away on
vacation for many weeks and this was not good news to come home and
find. We weren't even aware Bill was sick.
Besides seeing and having fun with Bill at so many SCCA races and
socials we have a special place for Bill in our lives as he gave us a
Sprite tub that Huffaker Engineering completed as an HP race car that
our son Steve took to the Runoffs in '97 and put on the pole. Our other
son Rob and Grandson Josh both took the car through drivers school and
Rob took it to the Runoffs in '98. That tub has always been "the Bill
Knox chassis" -- and it always will be. We will miss Bill very much.

Bill was my oldest and dearest friend he had an unparalleled zest for life.
His humor was infectious. While he was very ill he would not give up, give
in or give notice that he could be stopped. In October of 1999 being
pragmatic he and his wife Gerri were discussing his next race and what would
happen if he was not alive to run that race. After some lively discussions
Gerri said that should he pass before he could race again she would be sure
to have him attired in his nomex race suit. Bill of course was to be
cremated and it was a good few minutes before Gerri realized that a fire
proof suit might not be the most apropos of attire. After laughing about
this Bill called me to tell this story and said it was my duty to pass it
along. Bill requested that his ashes be spread in the BAY, and I have heard
rumors of a blue race suit floating in the BAY.
Bills B will be on track again for a vintage race as that is my charge. Bill
would wish you all happiness in your life as he found happiness with his
track friends. Please pass along the positive impact from William D. Knox as
he passed it to you.
