San Francisco Region, Sports Car Club of America
Minutes, 1998 Board of Directors
October 12, 1998

The Board meeting was called to order by R.E. Gary Pitts at 7:10 pm on october 12,1998. The meeting was held at the office of Steve Archer.

Those Board members present were Clint Dewitt, Sal Versaggi, Ian Cook, Tom Mcarthy and Kevin Jenkins.
Also present was David Vodden.

The Treasurers Report was given by Kevin Jenkins. The Region experienced a loss for September operations of $2,052; the first of an estimated six months of losses anticipated for the club.
The year-to-date profit is an impressive $92,245 due entirely to the well designed schedule of which has produced increased entries and the two highly successful test days at Laguna Seca.
It is anticipated that the October vintage event will break even and that the PCRRC and the Enduro weekend will do the same.
Year-end expenses, especially the banquet, meetings and awards, will take a big bite out of year-end results. In 1997, the Club lost close to $50,000 in the final quarter.
The Club’s balance sheet shows our best cash position in years with $251,245 for the Region.
We just transferred $100,000 into the money market account and paid off the Ford Truck.
The Solo II’s site fund is now up to $232.652.
As we approach the end of 1998, the keys to long-term financial success for the Region are: sensible management of year-end expenses; a well-thought plan to acquire capital equipment; a solid, yet aggressive schedule for 1999; aggressive long-term pricing for our services; increased return on the value of our workers through better negotiations with the users.

The Secretary’s Report was given by Ian Cook. After a minor change reguarding the wording of the RX7 class rule wording, the Report was approved by circulation.

The next Board meeting is to be held on November 21,1998 at the San Ramon Marriott, starting at 10:00 am, to be followed by the General Meeting from approx 1 to 4 pm. Our 1998 Banquet is to follow starting at 6:00 pm.

Steve Archer is making plans for a SFR SCCA Booth at the International Car Show.

David Vodden reported to the Board on his "Used Oil Grant Program" as a Title Sponsor for our 1999 - 2000 racing season. This Grant is for approx $124,000.00. David also emphasises that we do not have a contract as of yet!!

Ian Cook presented the final changes to the San Francisco Region Solo II Policy Statement. A motion was made by Ian Cook and seconded by Tom McCarthy to accept the Policy Statement as revised. Motion carried.

Tom McCarthy is requesting that the FV class has McCreary tires as their Spec Tire for 1999. National has to approve before any more region action can take place.

R.E. Gary Pitts discussed the format for our Banquet. He discussed the various awards that will be given and to whom the will be given Mary Lou Robson will be MC.

Much discussion regarding the "Hired" fire people at the Laguna Seca CART . We have been billed for approx $3500 for additional pit lane fire people that we could not supply. Sal Versaggi wants a complete explanation of this bill before it is paid.

Clint DeWitt expects at least 200 regional drivers at PCRRC.

Timing and Scoring has acquired for 486 computers with screens. Doug Hargrove will set up these computers for our needs.

Our 1999 SCCA Drivers School will be held at Thunderhill Raceway Park on Feb 20 and 21, 1999. Tom McCarthy made a motion that the cost for the school be $375.00. A charge for the novice permit will be $55. Plus the normal fees for SCCA membership. Motion seconded by Ian Cook and carried.

Meeting adjourned at 10:35 pm

Respectfully Submitted
