You will be required to know the meanings of the flags displayed at the corner stations.

Flags are extremely important. We review them with you before the event, but be sure to study the information before you get to the track.

As you lap the track, you will see the flagging stations. The corner workers staffing the flag stations have a vast amount of track experience and are here to ensure you have a safe event. Their primary job is to keep you informed about possible dangers on the track that you can’t see.

The following flags will be used during this event:

GREEN starts the session and is displayed at Start/Finish only.

RED indicates serious trouble. The session has been stopped. You must stop as quickly and safely as possible. Be sure that the cars behind you have seen it as well. Pull clear to the side of the track – NOT off the track. Do not move until signaled by a track official. Do not get out of your car!

STANDING YELLOW means take care and prepare to slow down. No passing from the flag until past the incident or obstacle. A vehicle or object is in close proximity to the track but is not on the track surface.

WAVING YELLOW means great danger, slow down, and be prepared to stop. No passing from the flag until past the incident or obstacle. A stalled vehicle or object is on the racing surface.

YELLOW & RED STRIPE is the surface flag. You need to take care.  Oil has been spilled, a slippery condition exists or debris is present on the track.

FURLED BLACK pointed at a driver. Correct a driving infraction or you will be flagged into the pit lane for consultation.

OPEN BLACK directed toward one driver. Proceed to the pit lane black flag station for          consultation with race officials.

WAVED BLACK, ALL STATIONS means all drivers should proceed directly to the pit lane and wait for directions

BLACK FLAG WITH ORANGE CIRCLE (the meatball) means your car has a mechanical problem and you must acknowledge the flag and report to the pits for inspection.

WHITE FLAG means an ambulance, service vehicle, or slow moving car is on the track. Take care.

CHECKERED FLAG means the session is over. After start/finish, continue at a slightly reduced speed. Be sure to give the pit in signal at the last turn (a raised fist out the window) and wave a friendly thanks to the corner workers as you pass by their stations.
