SFR SCCA Board of Directors Minutes

July 21, 2007

Location: Mike Smith’s Office – SaratogaCalled to order at 9:25 am by Mike SmithPresent: Mike Smith, Bryan Nemy, Peter Nosler, Dave Allen, Sherry Grantz.

Attending via phone: Ed Railton
Absent: Blake Tatum, Morris Hamm.

  

Five Minute Updates

·         Thunderhill Report – Mike Smith

Electrical load on system is very heavy. Group discussed using solar or wind power.  Group discussed septic tank issues regarding bathroom expansion. 

·         Region Administrator’s Report – Sherry Grantz

Sanctions are in for races up to 9-28.  There will be issues of High Performance Magazine to hand out at Thunderhill.

The Chicago Region has produced a worker video.  It was mentioned in Inside Line that Chicago can customize the video for any region for $100.

The new membership program from nationals was discussed.  Sherry will send a copy of the program to the Board.  Looks like a big headache to keep track of everyone. 

·         NorPac Issues –Mike Smith Group discussed SFR participation in the NorPac Convention. 

·         Secretary’s Report – Morris Hamm through Bryan Nemy

The minutes of the June 25 meeting reviewed and with minor changes noted. After the changes, Dave Allen moved that the minutes be approved, seconded by Peter Nosler and passed unanimously.

·         Recruiting Report – John Speer through Sherry Grantz

The group discussed the recruiting statistics that John put together.  He needs to review with volunteers how things are working out.  It was suggested that volunteer training should happen more than once per year.  Maybe OJT would help.  New flagging volunteers are working more closely with Mike Neff.  David Allen suggested that at social on Saturday a group photo of workers for the Wheel would be nice. 

·         Treasurer’s Report – Ed Railton, Sherry Grantz

The treasurer’s report was circulated to the board. It was discussed.  The CPA Financial Review for 2006 was also looked at.  Peter Nosler and Mike Smith will review in greater detail.  Motion by Bryan Nemy, seconded by David Allen to approve the report. Passed unanimously.

·         National Worker of the Year

A list of National Worker of the year award candidates was put together.  Mike Smith put the list together by specialty. 

Updates 

·         Thunderhill  RegionalThe group discussed full course yellow situations when a barrel gets out on course.  Peter Nosler thinks that the separate starts for V’s and FF’s are not working.  David Allen suggested that a driver survey for practice/qualify issues should be conducted.  The group discussed schedule changes and the ASR race group in Group 5.

 

·         New web design program – Sherry Grantz and Bryan Nemy

Sherry indicated that things are going very well.  She is working on a classified Ads solution.  She is Looking at Chico Web Design to handle this.  Solo will use a separate server at Chico Web Design to house it’s databases.  David Ray has discussed the future of Pre-reg. 

·         New Wheel publication – Peter Nosler

Mike has purchased a spell check program for Wheel writers to clean up some errors.  There has been good feedback from members on the new Wheel.  We need to make sure that the upcoming feature race is on the Wheel published before the race.

·         SSM program goals – Ed Railton There will be lots of raffle items at the Spec Miata festival at Infineon.  Toyo is donating $5,000.00 in prize money. 

·         Solo site search– Mike SmithWe are four weeks into the search looking at satellite views and taking photos of the sites.  15 potential sites have been found.

·         Feature class program – Peter Nosler/David Allen

Formula Ford – Peter Nosler

Running ads in Cal Club and Oregon publications and FF Website.  Cars will be coming from Canada.  There will be close to $8,000 in prizes.  A separate vintage class will be put together.  Estimate is greater then 40 cars.   

All Classes – Mike Smith

The December issue of the Wheel will talk about the Feature Races with pictures from all the events.

·         San Jose Grand Prix – Mike Smith

Credentials are ready.  Group discussed logistics issues.  Social will be in the Crowne Plaza.·

Had first discussion about dates

New items

·         Drivers School 2008

Discussed issues.  Use an offsite ground school.  Put together standards for exercises and instruction.   Suggested that we sponsor Ray Mudd from Thunderhill for the school.  Develop better tools for students. Setup a referral method to get existing members to get students to attend the school.  Start advertising in October.

 

·         Board Petitions

Reminder to get the petitions signed and in.

·         Board Liaison Reports – All

o        Pace Car Update – Peter Nosler is contacting Dodge.  Suggested the possibility of a used car.

o        Flag Chief – Need a new flag chief for 2008

o        Membership Chief –  David Allen: Need a new Membership chief in 2008

o        Vintage – Peter Nosler: Work hard to have 2 races in 2008.  Just stay within budget as we did for the last Vintage Race. 

·         Email –Insurance question regarding medical coverage:  It pays expenses beyond personal medical coverage.
