Five-minute updates
Thunderhill report - Mike Smith
The track is still discussing ways to solve the problem runoff areas after the indicators did not last as long as planned. The track has talked about tire pallets as a substitute for the barriers. The pallets would be placed about 18” off the track surface. Another suggestion is to make Turns 8 and 12, 14 off camber to eliminate the use of the runoff areas.
Vintage - Bill Godwin
Bill discussed logistics of upcoming Vintage race at Laguna. Additional rules have been placed in the acceptance letter. It is possible some of the Historic NASCAR drivers will need license waivers to compete. Bill has asked for a light social event for Friday night. Ed Railton said he would ask Malinda. Registration and tech will be held in the holding area on Friday afternoon. Tech will be checking cars on the backs of trailers Friday afternoon. There will a flyover using vintage aircraft. This year there will not be a Big Bore formula class as in past years. The entries so far total 96 with more coming each day. Bill also discussed the Vintage Council meeting he attended at Miller Motorsports Park.
Region Administrator Report - Sherry Grantz
The staff is very pleased with the new building and furniture. The schedule for the May event is out. John Speer has proven to be a big help in and around the office. The first quarter has produced a lot of work for Sherry and Colleen but it has been a good quarter for the Region. To properly promote the feature class events, there will need to be sufficient lead time on their schedule and events.
Recruiting report - John Speer through Sherry
John provided the Board with notes on the status of his efforts. He has written a letter of thanks to the Board for his participation in the Driver's School. Dave Allen suggested we get John working with local papers and their car columns and getting them information and that the Board should assist in providing John with information. The board felt that an additional Training Day in June would be desirable with a morning class session and an afternoon F&C school. The new temporary membership program for club racing was also discussed as a way of getting new members.
Secretary’s Report - Morris Hamm through Mike Smith
The minutes for the February 19, 2007 meeting were read. On motion by Dave Allen, seconded by Ed Railton, they were accepted as written.
Treasurer’s Report - Ed Railton
The treasurer's report was presented by Ed and Sherry. The Board reviewed the costs for The Wheel after the changeover in format. A few corrections to the report were noted . On motion by Bryan Nemy, seconded by Ed Railton, the corrected report was accepted.
Double National at Thunderhill:
The Board reviewed the Double National race at Thunderhill. Terry Ozment Vice-president and Ken Patterson, Chair of the Stewards Program have sent thanks for the courtesies and attentions during their stay at the event. The race weekend went well with about the expected number of entries. Jim Julow has indicated that he will attend the June 5 race at Thunderhill. The board discussed the amount due Reno region from the event. Reno Region has indicated a desire to host an event on June 15, (Father's Day), 2008 at the Fernley track if possible.
Updates
Wine Country - Mike Smith
Mike met with the various specialty chiefs on Friday at the Double National to discuss staffing for the Wine Country Historics, He also talked to Bill Haener. The region desires to make sure that Steve Earle receives the assistance he needs to make the event succeed to preserve our relationship with Steve and the Monterey Historics. Mike said that he and RJ would be meeting with the Infineon personnel to discuss issues.
Sealed Spec Miata Class - Ed Railton
Ed Railton stated that the engine dyno operator was going to build 5 sealed engines to have as inventory to be sold at $1,450 each. The operator will be at the May 5 and 6 races at Laguna. Ed felt it was advisable for the Region to support the program by agreeing to buy two of the engines to be used as reserves in case of need at an event weekend. Dave Allen moved that the region purchase two engines at $1,450 each, seconded by Peter Nosler and unanimously approved.
Feature Class Program - Blake Tatum
Blake discussed the status of the Spec Racer feature race on May 5 and 6 at Laguna. The race looks to be well attended and should be successful. The board also discussed the possibility of running the Sealed Spec Miata class with the ITE feature race.
Solo Meeting - Bryan Nemy
Bryan reported on the meeting he and Mike Smith attended of the Solo Steering Committee. Based on the meeting, Bryan presented a proposal to the board to use a portion of the Solo site acquisition fund to hire a part-time summer intern for about 6-8 weeks to assist in locating solo sites for lease.
Website Redesign Report - Sherry Grantz
The website redesign is about 98% complete.. The design team is still acquiring photos and other content materials. The new goal I to have the site operational in May.
Coordination with CAL Club - Dave Allen
Dave reported on the results of his discussions with Cal Club about coordinating schedules for the next year. He indicated that they would like to work with us to avoid event overlap and conflict if possible.
