What does VIP mean to you as a volunteer Race Official?SFR has a unique program of appreciation for the many volunteers needed to staff our road racing program. Called the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP), it awards VIP points for time spent volunteering at a SFR road racing event. These points can be used in several ways. Volunteer Incentive ProgramAll members earn three points per day for volunteer participation in region-supported events (which include both Club AND Pro Events). These points can be spent as dollars (one point equals one dollar) on club merchandise. Some crews may have activities (training) that are recognized with bonus points which apply only to the VIP program. VIP points expire three calendar years after the race season in which they were earned. An example: points earned in 2006 will drop from your account if not used by December 31, 2009. John “Bones” and Dorothy Brookman track and record these points based on reports given by each Crew Chief. Even if you work two Specialties, it is essential that you have a “Crew of Record” and that you keep your Chief of Record in the loop about your attendance at race weekends to ensure you receive proper credit for the hours you work. Once you’ve accrued enough points to “purchase” SCCA logo wear and club merchandise, you can place orders through RJ Gordy, who handles the VIP merchandise orders, as well as ordering crew and VRP jackets. Besides the merchandise, VIP can be used for the Annual Banquet and for Registration at both the National convention. Volunteer Recognition Program (VRP or dues reimbursement/jacket program)It is important to note that this program is based on Club Races ONLY. Three points are earned per day worked and expire at the end of the calendar year. Those members supporting 51% or more of the club racing days will be reimbursed for that part of their dues that National does not reimburse. The 2009 schedule indicates 29 days, so 15 days or 45 points are needed in order to qualify. Additionally, those volunteers who support 70% or more (21 days or 63 points or more) are recognized as dedicated workers. First year achievers receive a special jacket, patch and year bar. Repeaters get year bars to add to their jacket. Tim Linerud is now responsible for distributing volunteer patches and year bars, both annual and dedicated. However, requests for bars will be coordinated through your Chief, so please make arrangements through your Chief rather than Tim. New Volunteer Program (NVP)The New Volunteer Program was introduced at the end of the 2008 racing season with the intention of encouraging referrals from both Drivers and Workers. In order to participate, all you need to do is refer Volunteer Workers!
Why it is important that I select a Crew of Record?Currently, there are 325 active volunteers and another 106 "much less active" volunteers, who still have Points on the books. Regardless of your level of activity, it is still important that you select a "Crew of Record." It is YOUR responsibility to see that the chief of your "Crew of Record" knows when you are working with another crew. If any worker has any question about the days worked, they should ask the chief of the Crew of Record first. Bones and Dorothy will only accept changes to your point totals from your Chief, so it is essential that you communicate with the Chief directly! |
