We received very sad news this morning that Fran Chisum, a long time twenty+-year member of the SFR Timing & Scoring crew, had passed away. She had stumbled and taken a bad fall at home following Thanksgiving holidays, been hospitalized for a broken leg, improved and released to rehabilitation, but during her recovery had developed further health complications. The Webteam expresses their deepest sympathy to husband Jack, the kids, and their large extended family at this most difficult of times. Memorial services have not been determined at this time, and this page will be updated when known. I want to take the occasion of my Mom's passing to thank you all for the joy and friendship that being a part of SCCA has brought to both Mom and Jack throughout the years. With their brothers, sisters and kids scattered all across the country, you folks have truly been family to them. I can not put into words how grateful I am to you for the friendship and camaraderie you have so generously provided. Though we mourn my Mom's passing, we can all rejoice that she is in a place where there is no suffering, no tears and no darkness. Thank you for making this world so much brighter and better for Mom and Jack. I pray that God would richly bless each of you for all you have done for both of them.
I want to thank everyone who is part of SFRSCCA for all of the love, support and friendship that you have extended to my parents over the years. During every call, I hear about what is happening at the races and stories of good folks having fun. Often we don't realize how much an expression of support or caring can mean to a person. But, I can tell you that your years of friendship and encouragement have meant the world to Jack and Fran. Thank you for all of you thoughts and prayers and please count yourselves among our extended family. -- Mike Chisum, Little Falls, MN During my years working with the Timing & Scoring Crew, Fran was the dependable, level-headed fixture, who could always be depended upon to both do what was needed, as well as help us less well organized, get through the day. She was imperturbable, while at the same time she was aware when things weren't as they should be, and she was always ready to fill in when and where needed. She was not the œtake charge person, but she was always there to help set things right. It is inconceivable that she won't be around anymore. -- Anne Steele, Grid Crew (former T&S Crew) Oh I have some good memories of Fran Chisum and they go back many years. She was always, for me as a Steward, such a frequent and steadying sight in Timing and Scoring. But my most personal memory of her was when many years ago Jack (Chisum) saw me in the tower at Sears Point wearing Sperry Topsiders with no socks. He sent Fran out on Saturday evening to buy me a pair of yellow socks, I think so he could tell people I was the guy walkin' around with the rusty zipper and the yellow socks. Anyhow, Fran got the brightest neon yellow socks you're ever seen or can imagine and followed that up later by giving me a pair yellow and orange socks that she knit herself. I still have those socks and I'll always have that memory of Fran. Fran was a good friend of mine. Email The Web Team to pass along your memories of Fran and we will post them here. |
