Transponder Requirements and Care

The San Francisco Region requires that all drivers participating in our Regional and National Road Racing series equip their cars with a TRANSPONDER! This is a critical timing and scoring program that facilitates accurate and rapid results throughout the race weekend.

There are two transponder types: hardwire and rechargeable. Most drivers select the hard wire which operates off power wired in at the ignition. Some select the rechargeable unit which must be removed and charged at regular intervals to operate successfully.

Remember, all cars must be equipped with a transponder to participate in the SFR/SCCA road racing program. See below for purchase information.

A limited number of rental units may obtained at the track for a $50 rental fee and a lot of extra effort on your part to get it, put it on and return it at day's end. Call (530) 934-4455 if you have any questions.

Notice from AMB on Cleaning Transponders

It has come to our attention that some customers are using abrasive detergents, high-pressure hoses, or even submersion in an effort to clean their transponders after use. Doing so can result in degradation of the transponder's circuitry and overall performance, and damage resulting from these practices will not be covered under warranty.

AMB transponders are designed to perform at an extremely high level in typical motor sports environments. However, they are still susceptible to damage when handled improperly. AMB recommends gently washing your transponders with clean tap water and allowing them to fully dry before attempting to charge them.
