Here's the story about Joe's National Championship FP race: Notes & Quotes
And here's the story about Joe's Gold Medal Repeat National Championship GT5 race: Notes & Quotes Yes! More Runoffs: FA pole winner Keith Lively finished with a silver medal a scant .127 seconds behind the winner, after leading at the start. Larry Connor, eventual winner had a rear hub go bad just two laps from the end, and give it all he could, Keith came up "this much short". (About the width of your computer monitor--Ed.) FF pole winner and 2 time champ Keith Nunes finished a fine runner-up position in miserable conditions that many Californians are not accustomed too. NORPAC GP Champion Dan Huntsman(left) from Point Reyes, took his Red Line Oil /Minimania /HuntsmanAG MG Midget to a 10th place qualifying and fought successfully for a fine 10th place finish, after dropping back in the opening lap of a very wet track.
In AS Richard Ciochon also won a silver medal in a class that is not very large in the SFR. In the ultra competitive SRF, local hot shoe, Bob Breton qualified a fine 5th and finished in 6th. In EP in only his first year in National competition, former spec RX-7 champ Roland Kamber(left), qualified 17th and finished just outside the top 10 (12th place) in the largest field of cars - 39.
Now for some other "locals". Though these drivers are members in other regions - we still consider them locals because they live in our region and run just about all the SFR Nationals anyway. San Jose native, Jeff Jorgenson, a Cal-Clubber by membership but certainly a local by home, also earned a fine silver medal in Formula 500. He slotted into the P2 spot right at the start on a misty race track, and ran there the whole race avoiding the puddles except for the one that cost him a chance for a pass on the leader.
Tahoe City Native, and often Pro Spec series racer John Black, set the race's fastest lap in SRF after falling outside the top 10 early and finishing one slot ahead of Bob Breton. John had what would be arguably, one of the best charges through the field in all three days. Multiple Runoffs winner, Doug Peterson has always called Northern California home, drove to a fine second place in GT5. Finally a note to our Nor Pac Divsion brother - Duane Davis - for yet another Championship in GT2. Duane has now accumulated 11 career championships! Though out of Oregon, he is a familiar face at all of the SFR Nationals. Congratulations everybody who made it to Mid-Ohio! You looked pretty good!!
