One day – two road rallies in Marin and the Wine Country
Morning Madness – written by Stu Helfer – winner of the SCCA National Road Rally of the Year in 2007 – will be a course/trap rally.
The event starts at the Days Inn in Novato, on Redwood Blvd., north of the San Marin exit.
Registration will be from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00a.m., first car departs at 8:31 a.m.
The event runs just over 4 hours.
The "Traps" are easy enough that after the event is run and the traps are explained, even the first timers should be able to understand what they did wrong, if anything.
At no time will anyone need to exceed the speed limit in order to do well. In fact, speeding is against the rules!
For both events, two people per car, and minors need to have signed releases from their parents to participate. Cars must be street legal and pass a self-performed tech inspection.
Cost for SCCA members is $25 for one event, and then they can run the afternoon rally free!
Classes are:
S – Stock (no special equipment) A calculator and a good watch can run this event and do well.
L – Limited Equipment - A special odometer, or laptop would run in this class. Again, a good watch would be needed (a digital wristwatch will work fine).
E – Unlimited Equipment - Rallye computers and the like run in this class.
The Afternoon Wine-Down Rally will be a "Tour" event, by J and Jessica Toney. Classes will be the same, but on this event, there will be no tricks. The object is to stay close to the correct time and correct speed to receive the best score.
Registration for Afternoon Wine-Down Rally starts at 1:00 p.m. with the first car leaving at 2:00 p.m. Finish will be around 5:00 p.m.
People may contact Stu Helfer for more info at 510 527-8787 or J Toney at 530 666-6244.
