Notes on Two-Day Double Regional Format
We are going to try something new at the Thunderhill July Double Regional.....We are going to run a Double Regional in two days instead of three and you will get the same track time as a typical Double Regional.
How are we going to do this?
We know historically the July event has a lower entry count, so we're going to a 6 run group format. Good scheduling and support from the Workers allow us to run a complete Double Regional in two days.
What changes?
1) We have restructured the class/group layouts so be sure to check the July Double Regional schedule
2) We are going to try three "feed on-feed off" qualifying sessions. Every other session will have the normal break between qualify sessions. This may mean if your car breaks down on track it may sit until the end of
the following 20 minute session before it is brought back to the paddock. The Emergency Crew will do their best to get you in sooner.
3) We will operate slightly later on both days.
Why do this?
1) It allows both Drivers and Workers to take one less day off and saves on lodging and food costs.
2) It allows the Region to save on track rental costs which are an issue at low-entry events.
3) By solving the economics at low-entry events, we can minimize the need to increase entry fees.
Why did we pick Thunderhill?
1) We know this is traditionally a low-entry event
2) While it doesn’t happen every time, there is a good possibility of it being hot. Two days is better than three in the heat.
3) Thunderhill is user friendly when it comes to towing, etc. and if needed there are safe areas to hold cars till the next session break
What are the down sides?
1) You may have to sit in a track hold area if your car breaks down.
2) Running later on both Saturday and Sunday makes the day longer.
What happens to Thursday open test day?
It has been moved to Friday and will be run through Thunderhill as normal.
